Single Minded: Queen Remix, Decemberists Cover Heart

Queen, “Bohemian Rhapsody” [Schizofonics Remix]
Forget Adam Lambert: maybe what Queen needs to do is take Schizofonics on the road with them to turn out sugared-up electro re-workings on the fly. They could do that for a living — it would be like the new version of those old planetarium laser light shows. “Don’t Fear the Reaper?” More like “Don’t Fear the BLEEPer,” amirite? High-five!

Run-DMC, “My Addidas” [Pilotpriest Remix]
Here’s the thing about Run-DMC: their flow was so wicked, so breakneck, so ahead-of-its-time, that when you lay it on top of a thumping electro track like this one, it sounds like it came out yesterday. This hyperkenetic remix is just further proof of the trio’s incredible vision.

The Decemberists, “Crazy On You” [Heart Cover]
The final great consummation of indie rock’s relationship to hard rock has arrived at last! They began as enemies, warily eyeing each other from across the room. As time went on, they developed a kind of adversarial rapport, all the while growing more and more taken by the others charms. And then, they could resist no longer, each of them blurting out “You complete me!” in one grand, spectacular rush of emotion. We are actively anticipating Heart’s reciprocal cover of “Sixteen Military Wives” to completely seal the deal.

Black Star, Live at Nokia Theater [Live Recording]
Missed the legendary duo’s sold-out NYC show? This full-length bootleg is compensation. Tougher than leather and bubbling hot, Mos Def and Talib Kweli solidify the reputation they established with their landmark debut.

Passion Pit, “The Reeling” [Sammy Bananas Big Choon Remix]
So it seems possible now to have heard Passion Pit remixes without ever having actually heard Passion Pit. There are so many of them floating around — and this big bass beat/dusting-of-synth reinvention is the latest — that we wonder if maybe we don’t even need the original Passion Pit at this point.
